The automatic "turn signals" of BMW will appear on the electric cars of the new Neue Klasse family. The first to get this feature will be the BMW iX3 crossover - the electric counterpart of the X3 model, which should be presented in the fall at the Munich Auto Show. The technology is part of an updated set of electronic "assistants".

The BMW iX3 electric car will be equipped with an additional camera in the cabin, which will monitor the driver's eye movement. If the driver looks in the rearview mirror and starts to turn or change lanes, the turn signal will turn on automatically.

In case the driver wants to make a maneuver without looking in the mirror, the car will resist - stay in the lane and refuse to turn or change lanes (obviously, the lane keeping function will be activated).
