There were 230 passengers on board.
All those on board the Air India Boeing that crashed in Ahmedabad, India, have died. This was reported by local police. The airline said earlier that 230 passengers and 12 crew members were on board.
The plane, flight AI171 to London, crashed into a medical college hostel building shortly after takeoff. According to a police spokesman, there are also casualties on the ground as a result of the plane crash. According to regional media, more than 100 bodies have already been taken to morgues of nearby hospitals.
The airliner was carrying 169 Indian nationals and 53 British nationals, along with seven Canadian nationals and one from Portugal.
Ahmedabad airport suspended flight services but later continued operations. The cause of the airplane crash is unknown.
