Russian losses in Ukraine have already reached 1 million people.
The people of Russia are "immortal," and the path to this "immortality" lies through victories during military operations, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with participants of the "Time of Heroes" program in the Kremlin.
Putin said that the idea of the immortality of Russians was shared with him by writer Alexander Prokhanov, in whose opinion the Day of Russia is associated with immortality.
"Indeed, the meaning of today is in the immortality of the Russian people, all the peoples of our multinational country and our state, our homeland - Russia. And the path to this immortality lies through the victories that are paved by you and your fighting comrades," Putin said, addressing the former participants of the occupation war.
He also added that he was talking about people who "right in these seconds are fulfilling their duty to the Motherland on the line of contact, at the front" (quotes from the Kremlin website).
British intelligence data show that Russian army losses in Ukraine reached 1 million people at the beginning of June 2025. Of these, at least 250,000 were killed, and total irrecoverable losses (including wounded who will no longer return to the troops) reached 400,000-500,000 people.
Since the beginning of 2025, according to British intelligence, the Russian army has suffered losses of 200,000 people, including killed and wounded. "Russia's senior leadership is surely prepared to tolerate chronically high casualties as long as they do not begin to negatively affect popular and elite support for the war and as long as they can be recovered," Britain's Defense Ministry wrote.
