That Iran's top leadership is already "packing their bags" was previously reported by Israel's prime minister.
Ali Asghar Hejazi, who serves as deputy chief of staff of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, is holding secret talks with Russian officials about the possibility of leaving the country in case of further deterioration of the situation in Iran due to Israeli strikes. This is reported by Iran International, citing knowledgeable sources.
According to the publication, a senior Russian official gave Hejazi personal guarantees: if the situation in Iran worsens, Moscow will organize a safe evacuation route for him and his family members. Sources say other senior Iranian officials have similar arrangements. Some of them, according to Iran International, have already finalized their possible escape routes.
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu earlier issued a video message in which he said that Iran's top leadership is already "packing their bags."
Israel's military operation against Iran began on the night of June 13. Tel Aviv justified the start of hostilities by the need to prevent Iran from building nuclear weapons. During the attack, Israeli forces struck a number of strategically important sites on Iranian territory, including nuclear facilities. A number of high-ranking Iranian officials and scientists associated with the nuclear program were also eliminated.
In response, Tehran carried out a large-scale attack, firing hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israel. According to Israeli authorities, the strike killed at least 13 civilians and injured hundreds more.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a statement on June 15 saying Tehran was ready to conclude an agreement guaranteeing the renunciation of nuclear weapons development.
