During this time, the ship has faced a series of serious incidents: fires, crane falls, airplane landing accidents, and even military deaths. The ship is also equipped with an outdated fuel system powered by fuel oil, making it easily detectable by thick black smoke.

After the collapse of the USSR, of the two planned aircraft carriers, only one went to Russia; the other was sold to China. The operational history shows the systemic problems of the Russian navy and the limited ability to repair or modernize such complex ships.

While Moscow talks about building new aircraft carriers, the only aircraft carrier sits idle in dry dock.
