Poland has held the second round of presidential elections. The liberal candidate from the ruling Civic Coalition, Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski and the head of the Institute of National Remembrance of Poland Karol Nawrocki, who is supported by the opposition conservative Law and Justice party, competed for the presidential seat on June 1.

The State Election Commission said Karol Nawrocki winning with 50.89% of the vote.

Karol Tadeusz Nawrocki was born on March 3, 1983, in Gdansk to a family of workers. His father Richard was a turner and participated in opposition activities during the times of the Polish People's Republic, being a member of the Solidarity trade union, while his mother Elizabeth worked in a printing shop.

Nawrocki studied in Gdansk. He earned a degree in human resources management from the Graduate School of Business and Administration in 2003 and a master's degree in history from the University of Gdansk in 2008, where he became a doctor of humanities five years later.

In 2023, already as President of the Institute of National Remembrance, he completed the International MBA program at the Gdansk Polytechnic University.

In his youth Karol Nawrocki was active in sports: he played soccer and successfully competed in boxing tournaments, winning the Polish Junior Boxing Cup in 2004. He was a player and captain of the soccer team "Eks Sedlce Gdansk", and in 2010 he founded a martial arts section.

Nawrocki is an active fan of the soccer club "Lechia" from Gdansk. During the elections it became known that he even participated in fights of soccer fans.

Karol Nawrocki's professional activity is closely connected with education, history and politics of national memory. He started working at the Institute of National Remembrance in 2009 and became the head of the institution in 2021.

He also headed the World War II Museum in Gdańsk for 5 years (2017-2021). Under Navrotsky's decision, Red Army monuments were dismantled in Poland, for which the Russian Federation even brought criminal charges against him. Russian propagandists often devoted stories to him.

Nawrocki's "Plan 21" program includes tax reform (VAT reduction), the creation of the Breakthrough Technology Fund, the construction of the Central Communications Port, the return of homework in schools and free lessons before obtaining a driver's license. He also opposes mandatory vaccination, supports a ban on abortion and has spoken out against the legalization of civil partnerships.

In May 2025, Karol Nawrocki made a visit to the United States, where he met with President Donald Trump. The head of the White House publicly stated that Nawrocki would "definitely win" the election. This meeting caused a significant resonance in the Polish media, which called him "Trump's candidate".

While campaigning, Nawrocki did not say anything about Lukashenko's regime. He mentioned Belarus only in the context of attacks by illegal migrants.

Nawrocki opposed Ukraine's accession to NATO at this stage.

The future president of Poland said: "As president, I will do everything to really support Ukraine militarily," but emphasized that he would not allow Poland to become a secondary market for Ukrainian goods.
