Germany, Britain And France Concluded Talks With Iran In Geneva

They concerned Iran's nuclear program.

Talks between the foreign ministers of Germany, France and Britain and their Iranian counterpart on Iran's nuclear program have concluded in Geneva, reports DW on Friday, June 20.

The talks were attended by the foreign ministers of Germany Johann Wadeful, France Jean-Noel Barrot, Britain David Lammy, European Union foreign policy chief Kaya Kallas and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

After the three-hour meeting ended, Vadeful spoke of "serious negotiations" that left him with the impression that the Iranian side was ready in principle for dialog. "The positive outcome today is that we leave the room with the impression that the Iranian side is ready in principle to continue discussing all important issues," the German minister said.

"The whole region is in an extremely critical situation and our common goal is to avoid further escalation and to make progress in the negotiations," Wadeful emphasized, adding that it is important for Europeans to participate in these talks. "But above all, it is very important for the United States to be involved in these negotiations and in finding a solution," he added. At the same time, protecting Israel's security interests is a priority for Germany, the German foreign minister said. "We will make this a priority in all future negotiations," the minister stressed.

British Foreign Minister David Lammy also urged Iran to continue talks with the United States on reducing its nuclear program. "This is a dangerous moment and it is crucial that we do not witness a regional escalation of this conflict," he added.

French President Emmanuel Macron earlier revealed four points of the proposal to be discussed at the talks. The first is the reopening of the IAEA with access to all sites so that Iran moves toward a complete halt to uranium enrichment.

The next two items are restrictions on ballistic missile production and an end to funding for terrorist groups in the region. The fourth demand is for Iran to release hostages.
