This is about the so-called "referendum" of Voks 2025.
The leader of the Hungarian opposition party Tisza, Peter Madjar, has declared a complete failure of the government's Voks 2025 campaign, which the government presented as a "people's poll" regarding Ukraine and other issues.
He wrote about this in Facebook.
He said that according to the Hungarian Post, only 3-7% of the "ballots" sent out were returned from different regions of the country. This means that a maximum of 500,000 people took part in the paper vote.
Madyar also recalled that the country's government spokesman Gergei Gulyás himself admitted that there were far fewer online responses than paper ones.
"Contrary to propaganda, the total number of 'voters' does not exceed 600,000," the opposition politician wrote.
He noted that this is the lowest result in the history of the so-called national consultations, and added that even this figure was achieved by the government only after months of campaigning and spending tens of billions of forints from the state budget.
"A total failure," Madjar summarized.
He also compared the campaign to the Tisza party's initiative.
"We with the referendum 'Tisza - Voice of the Nation' reached every Hungarian locality. We personally asked people and they could express their opinions face to face. And not only on Ukraine, but on real Hungarian questions of destiny," he said.
In contrast, Madjar said, there were no volunteers, no tents, no roadshows during the Voks 2025 campaign - only "billions of public funds wasted on provocative advertisements and posters."
"Because the pro-government, corrupt system is not interested in people's real problems and does not even dare to look them in the eye. They only correspond with them," he added.
Madyar also criticized the authorities for trying to legitimize the results of the poll and ironically commented on statements about notary confirmation of these data.
"It's funny that propaganda is trying to convince people of the fictitious 2 million, referring to the fact that a notary will 'certify' the result. What exactly is he supposed to certify? Anonymous ballots that anyone could fill out? Or online votes that anyone could send in any number of votes?" he noted.
Voks 2025 is a so-called national poll initiated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in the spring of 2025. Formally, it was positioned as a "consultation with citizens", particularly on the issue of Ukraine's accession to the European Union. The opposition and part of the media called the initiative a propaganda action.
The poll was conducted through paper questionnaires that were sent by mail, as well as through an online form. Orban has publicly stated that Ukraine's accession to the EU allegedly threatens the Hungarian economy, farmers and the country's sovereignty, so he asked citizens to express their opinions on the matter.
Officially, up to 2 million people took part in Voks 2025, but these figures are questionable. Opposition leader Peter Madjar and his Tisa party believe that the real figures were much lower - no more than 600,000.
