First-ever GBU-57 Combat Mission: Fordow 'disappeared' After US Airstrike

First-ever GBU-57 Combat Mission: Fordow 'disappeared' After US Airstrike

The operation was carefully planned and kept in the strictest secrecy.

The United States has launched a massive military operation against Iran, launching precision strikes against three Iranian nuclear facilities.

The operation, which took place on the night of June 22, was the largest U.S. military intervention in the region in decades and marked the official entry into war with Iran. Dialog.UA looked into the details.

The U.S. Air Force and Navy carried out massive attacks on the country's key nuclear sites of Fordow, Netenz and Isfahan. The Fordow underground complex, located deep underground, was hit by between six and twelve GBU-57 heavy-duty bombs.

The 13.5-ton bombs, each containing about 2.5 tons of explosives, were delivered to targets by B-2 stealth aircraft.

The distinguishing feature of this operation was the first ever combat use of GBU-57s by the US.

The Netenz and Isfahan sites were also attacked, with submarines firing about thirty Tomahawk cruise missiles at them. Additionally, two anti-bunker bombs were dropped on Netenz.

The operation was carefully planned and kept top secret. The B-2 bombers took off from Whitman Base in the US, reached Iran and returned safely without casualties.

U.S. President Donald Trump from the White House congratulated the U.S. Armed Forces on a "spectacular military success." He stated, "All planes have returned home safely. It's time for peace!".

The US leader also warned Tehran that if it did not agree to peace, "there are many more targets and the next strikes will be much worse."

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu expressed gratitude to the US, saying the promise to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities had been fulfilled. Meanwhile, Iran has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

Iranian media is threatening the US and American citizens. Tehran has already unleashed a new wave of missiles on Israel. Iran's Atomic Energy Organization said it would not suspend its development.

After inspecting the sites, no radioactive leaks were tentatively found. The attack is the largest US military operation against Iran in decades. The use of GBU-57 heavy-duty bombs underscores the seriousness of Washington's intentions. However, discussions have already begun in the US about the legality of these strikes without congressional approval.
