Iranian Foreign Minister Flies Urgently To See Putin

Tehran is hoping for help from the Russian dictator.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is urgently flying to Russia for talks with Putin after the US decided to join strikes on Iranian nuclear sites bombed by Israel for more than a week.

"I am going to Moscow today and I have a meeting with President Putin tomorrow morning. Russia is a friend of Iran and we have a strategic partnership," Araghchi told a news conference on Sunday.

Russia would like to intervene in the situation with Iran, as a close partner and ally is under attack, many diplomatic efforts have been made, but all attempts have ended in futility, The Moscow Times sources close to the Kremlin's foreign policy bloc and the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to one of the sources, a current government official, the Kremlin may still try to influence things in partnership with "friendly" countries - China, Brazil and India. "We will try to create some kind of front of countries that favor a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue," the source said. - It is very important to somehow try to convince American partners in the [Persian] Gulf zone to try to influence Washington to be more restrained."

The Russian-Iranian strategic partnership agreement does not provide for military assistance, and it is hardly worth expecting Moscow to "show muscle" in support of Iran.
