"To Fight Against Lukashism": The First Speech Of Sergei Tikhanovsky At Large

Sergei Tikhanovsky and other freed prisoners of the Lukashenko regime have held their first press conference after their release.

- First of all [I want to say thank you] to all those who brought the day of my release closer. I also want to thank all the diplomats and politicians in the United States who made my release possible. First of all President Donald Trump," said Sergei Tikhonovsky, "President Trump now has such power and opportunity when he can release all political prisoners of Belarus with one word. And I ask him to do, to say that word.

After that, Tihanovsky also thanked Lithuanian politicians and diplomats, specifically mentioning President Gitanas Nauseda - for the fact that the latter "once saved his children, his family, and also helped him and all Belarusians." The same personal thanks were sent to former Polish President Andrzej Duda and Polish politicians.

After listing other politicians who helped him and not only Tihanovsky addressed the Belarusians:

- If you were waiting for a sign, here it is," he said, raising a clenched fist in the air - the symbol of the 2020 protests.

- "States die when they can no longer distinguish between bad people and good people," Tihanovsky continued. - What happened to me? The charge brought against the executioner became a verdict for the victim. I was like a man who went out to admire the rainbow but was struck by lightning.

Tikhanovsky said the authorities call those who oppose them "traitors." But in his opinion, traitors are all those who do not resist them. Tikhanovsky made a reference to a quote by American writer Mark Twain and reminded that if a person sees that "the political clothes of his country are worn out and keeps silent," he is not a loyal citizen.

- We must fight against Lukashism," Tikhanovsky urged. - If they are not opposed, they will devastate our country, create a land devoid of justice and sympathy, a land materially and spiritually bankrupt. Belarus today is the realm of the most shameless lies. Constant abuse of hope, utter contempt for the truth, people often take illusion for reality, neglecting what is actually important. The system is arranged in such a way that anyone who does not try to learn anything will live in blissful ignorance, and the one who has spent effort and time will find it very difficult to get to the truth.
