Zelensky Names The Most Effective Sanctions Against Russia
Vladimir Zelensky

There are two key areas of focus.

Sanctions against the banking and energy sectors will hit the Russian economy the hardest. A significant decrease in oil prices - down to $30 per barrel - will be particularly effective.

"They (in Russia, - ed.) have the main money from the energy sector anyway. Of course, it is very difficult for them to move when sanctions are imposed on the banking system," Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said, according to "Ukrinform".

The head of the Ukrainian state noted that the aggressor country uses various methods to counteract: "They have ways and use crypto, and bypass models. There is also India, there is China, there is Turkey and other countries - former republics of the Soviet Union, through which they work. So sanctions on the banking system definitely slow down the process and create difficulties. There are opinions that the banking system is more efficient. And I believe that the energy system is more effective," Zelensky said.

According to him, he called on partners to strengthen sanctions against both the banking and energy systems of the Russian Federation.

"Energy is absolutely clear. In energy there is money not only direct from taxes, but also dividends from energy companies, which Putin helps to replenish the budget," the Ukrainian president said.

He also noted that a significant drop in oil prices could lead to cardinal problems with filling the Russian budget, which finances the war. For this, Zelensky said, it is necessary not only to lower the ceiling prices for Russian oil, which are now set at $60 per barrel, but also to increase oil production in the world.

Zelensky added that the G7 countries can agree that individual countries or groups of countries should use the ceiling prices for Russian oil.

"And when, for example, you want the price to be $40-45 per barrel of Russian oil - you have to say $30. Although an effective $30. It would hit them very hard and really force them to finish the aggression," the Ukrainian president said.
