NATO Secretary General Told Whether He Sees A Threat Of Russian Attack On The Baltic States From The Territory Of Belarus

Mark Rutte has promised a "crushing" response in case of provocations.

In the fall, Belarus will host the joint military exercise Zapad-2025 with Russia. NATO is closely watching them, estimating the number of participants at 100,000 people. June 23, Secretary General of the alliance Mark Rutte told reporters what would happen if Russia decides to attack NATO countries, using the "West-2025" exercises.

On the eve of the NATO summit, which will be held in The Hague on June 24-25, Secretary General of the organization Mark Rutte met with journalists. One of the questions concerned the joint Belarusian-Russian exercises "West-2025. "Belsat" journalists asked whether NATO sees a real threat of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the Baltic States from the territory of Belarus during the exercise.

- The Alliance is so strong today that if Russia tried to do something, they know that our reaction would be crushing," said NATO Secretary General. - Therefore, it would be extremely unwise on the part of Vladimir Putin or his accomplice in Belarus (meaning Alexander Lukashenko. - Ed.) to do anything against us.

Mark Rutte also said that one of the goals of the NATO summit in The Hague is to work out a decision to increase defense spending by all member countries of the alliance.

- Because of the changed security situation, we will have to spend more. So that when the call goes out for each of our allies to contribute to the common cause - the defense of every inch of NATO territory - everyone will be ready, making commitments not only on paper but also in reality," he said.

The Alliance Secretary General assured journalists that NATO is already ready to apply the fifth article of its charter. It says that an attack on one member state will be considered an attack on the entire organization.

- We have ready plans, structures, command and control systems to ensure that we can immediately engage the capabilities that each country possesses on an individual level," Rutte said. - In the event of an attack on us, every NATO country will channel its capabilities into a common effort.
