Pentagon: No Casualties In Iranian Attack On US Airbase In Qatar

Earlier it was reported that Iran warned Qatar of an impending attack on a US base.

There were no casualties in Iran's attack on the US Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar, The New York Times reported, citing a US Defense Department spokesman.

"There are no reports of American casualties at this time. We are closely monitoring the situation," the Pentagon said.

The NYT earlier quoted Iranian sources as saying that Iran had warned Qatar of an impending attack on a US base to minimize losses. The sources explained that it was important for Tehran to retaliate against U.S. facilities, but at the same time leave all sides room for maneuver and preserve the possibility of de-escalation.

Iran acted in a similar manner in January 2020, when it warned Baghdad of its intention to attack a U.S. base in Iraq in response to the assassination of General Qassem Suleimani, the sources told The New York Times.
