NATO's secretary general has promised that all members of the Alliance will increase defense spending.
Donald Trump boasted of a message from NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte congratulating him on his "decisive action" on Iran and agreement among all Alliance allies to increase defense spending.
The corresponding screenshot he posted on Tuesday, June 24, on the social network Truth Social.
The message read, "Congratulations and thank you for your decisive action on Iran - it was truly extraordinary. No one else dared to do it. This will ensure our security."
NATO officials confirmed to The Guardian that this was the message Rutte sent to Trump on Tuesday as he headed to The Hague for an alliance summit.
Rutte also wrote: "You are flying to another great success tonight in The Hague. You will accomplish what no American president has been able to do for decades. Europe will now pay a BIG price - as it should - and it will be your victory."
June 24-25, a summit of NATO leaders will be held in The Hague, Netherlands - the first under the leadership of Mark Rutte, the Alliance's new secretary general and former Dutch prime minister. As Western media suggest, its main topic will be the situation in the Middle East, while the topic of Russia's war against Ukraine will probably take a back seat.
In addition, the American president confirmed a possible meeting with Vladimir Zelensky.
