There's a Russian trace in him.
In Armenia, law enforcers prevented the participants of the pro-Russian "Holy Struggle" movement led by the Archbishop of the Armenian Apostolic Church Bagrat Galstanyan from "seizing power," the country's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said. According to him, "law enforcement officers foiled a large-scale and insidious plan of the criminal oligarchic clergy to destabilize the republic," which was aimed at a coup d'état, The Moscow Times writes.
Pashinyan referred to a report by the Investigative Committee, which says that the movement's participants had been preparing a plan to seize power since November 2024. To that end, they decided to form 200-250 strike groups of 25 people, mostly from former military and police officers, and purchased explosive devices and other tools "to carry out terrorist attacks," the Investigative Committee said. According to the agency, the conspirators planned to paralyze traffic by means of car crashes, explosions and arson, organize mass blackouts of electricity and internet, shell buildings and take other actions threatening the life and health of citizens.
The IC added that since January 2025, the group members managed to recruit more than 1,000 people, buy "thousands" of incendiary devices, obtain a map of Yerevan to determine the main places of planning sabotage attacks, obtain data on the location of traffic lights, power junctions, and the location of the main roads in the city. At the same time, the group's leaders used psychological and propaganda techniques, leaving the execution of the main actions to "adventurers," the IC said.
According to Civic, the movement's strategy included the participation of the country's former presidents and Russian companies. On Wednesday, officers of Armenia's National Security Service detained Galstanyan. In the morning, the homes of the archbishop and a number of his supporters were searched. Also detained were reserve colonel Migran Mahsudyan and a representative of the Call of Sons NGO Ara Rostomyan.
