There is almost one disease for each Belarusian per year.
The incidence of disease in Belarus returned to growth after two years of decline. According to the National Statistics Committee, in 2024, 94.9 thousand new diseases were registered in the country for every 100 thousand people. That is, each Belarusian has almost one disease per year, first established by a doctor, writes "Belarusians and the market".
A year earlier, the incidence was lower - 94.1 thousand per 100 thousand inhabitants. The peak in the available history of observations came in 2021, the pandemic period - 105.7 thousand diseases. After that, a rapid decline began.
The drop in incidence we have seen the past two years was due to a decline in infectious diseases, which is logical during the end of a pandemic. Their decline continues into 2024. However, the overall incidence has now returned to growth - at the expense of non-communicable diseases.
Part of the increase in the incidence of non-communicable diseases is due to statistical distortions - during the pandemic they were diagnosed less frequently because doctors were preoccupied with a more urgent problem. Now the delayed diagnoses are on the rise. However, the morbidity rate for major diseases already significantly exceeds even the pre-pandemic values.
For example, there are now 2 thousand new cases of neoplasms for every 100 thousand Belarusians. Before the pandemic it was 1.6 thousand. A similar picture - in endocrine, orthopedic and other diseases.
The opposite trend is observed only in the field of mental disorders - there are less than before 2020: 1.2 thousand vs. 1.4 thousand. At the same time, the diagnosis of mental disorders has been decreasing earlier - since 2015, when there were 1.6 thousand disorders for every 100 thousand Belarusians.
