At the same time, he said he would discuss a potential nuclear deal with Iran next week.
American President Donald Trump said on Wednesday, June 25, that the US will discuss a potential nuclear deal with Iran next week. At the same time, Trump said he does not consider such an agreement "so necessary."
The U.S. president said this during a press conference after the conclusion of the NATO summit in The Hague, CNN reported.
"We're going to talk to them next week, to Iran. Maybe we'll sign an agreement, I don't know. As far as I'm concerned, I don't think it's that necessary. I mean, they had a war, they fought a war, now they're going back to their world. I don't care whether there's an agreement or not," Trump said.
The American president added that his administration will ask for the same commitments it sought in negotiations with Iran before the recent escalation in the Middle East.
He also does not believe such an agreement is necessary because he insists that the US has successfully destroyed Iran's nuclear capability, despite preliminary intelligence assessments that suggest otherwise.
"We don't want nuclear weapons, but we have destroyed the nuclear program. In other words - it has been destroyed. I said: "Iran will not have nuclear weapons." Well, we've nuked it. It's completely destroyed, so I'm not too worried about it. If we could get some kind of document - that would be nice. We're going to meet with them," the US president said.
