Israeli Special Forces Operated Covertly Inside Iranian Territory
Eyal Zamir

The IDF Chief of General Staff revealed the details.

Israeli ground special forces units operated on Iranian territory during the war. IDF Chief of General Staff Eyal Zamir said this in a June 25 statement, according to Details.

Summarizing the results of Operation "People Like a Lion," Zamir said: "We achieved full control in the airspace over Iran and anywhere we chose to operate. This was achieved, among other things, through the coordinated and sophisticated actions of the Air Force and ground commandos. The forces operated covertly, deep in enemy territory, which gave us freedom of operational action."

In addition to massive missile attacks, Iran's plan to destroy Israel also involved a ground invasion on multiple fronts, Zamir said.

"In the months leading up to the war, Iran had been pushing a plan based on a massive external fire attack combined with a ground invasion on multiple fronts. These were not just theoretical ideas, but a real threat to our existence," said the Chief of Staff.

(Note: obviously referring to a ground invasion by pro-Iranian proxy forces - Iran and Israel do not share a common land border).

"Our first strike was unexpected and decisive. It threw the enemy off balance and was a key factor in the success of the entire operation. We hit all planned targets - and more. Our achievements exceeded what was planned."

"According to the assessments of the IDF Intelligence Directorate and our nuclear experts, the strike against Iran's nuclear program was not a pinpoint strike, but a systemic one. We struck key sites, factories, industries and knowledge centers," Zamir explained.

"The cumulative result allows us to state: the Iranian nuclear program has suffered heavy, deep and broad damage and has been set back years," he concluded.

"We have inflicted serious damage on Iran's missile capabilities, destroyed hundreds of launchers and missiles, and created a significant delay in its efforts to build up its military power," the chief of staff added.

Zamir also paid tribute to U.S. military support. "Our achievements have been enhanced by the actions of the US army. The operations of the US forces were precise, powerful and impressive. At all stages of the operation, I maintained close communication with my counterparts in the US Army. Coordination between the armies is a strategic asset for the State of Israel," he said.
