EU To Open 'first Chapter Of Negotiations' On Moldova's EU Accession

The EU-Moldova summit will take place on July 4.

The European Union will open the "first chapter of negotiations" on Moldova's accession to the EU at a summit to be held in Chisinau on July 4, Romanian President Nicusor Dan told the NATO summit in Brussels.

He noted that the EU-Moldova summit will be the first ever and will be held with the active support of Bucharest. He specified that Chisinau has already started the negotiation process within the 33 chapters of the European law, and the upcoming summit will be a symbolic opening of the first of them - the chapter on fundamental values.

Dan said that at Romania's initiative, the final statement of the upcoming summit will include a special paragraph on Moldova.

"Romania's interests are in Moldova, and at Romania's initiative, the final statement will have a paragraph on the republic," the politician said.
