Iran Officially Ends Cooperation With IAEA

The country's parliament passed the law.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the country is officially ending cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

It was reported by The Times of Israel, citing a statement aired on Iranian state television.

Araghchi said Iran's parliament passed the relevant bill, which was later approved by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Council, making it legally binding. "The law approved by the parliament and endorsed by the Guardian Council is now binding. Our relationship with the IAEA will take a new shape," the minister said.

After recent strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities by Israel and the US, the IAEA has no clear assessment on the duration of the impact: whether the nuclear weapons program has been set back for years or only a few months.

The day before, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful urged Iran not to stop engaging with the IAEA. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Iran has moved significantly away from building nuclear weapons since the airstrikes.
