GSD: Russia Has Dumped Old T-62 Tanks On The Frontline

The technical condition of most of these machines is unsatisfactory.

Russia is experiencing a shortage of modern armored vehicles. Therefore, the occupiers are forced to throw old T-62 tanks to the front.

This is reported by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's GSD in Telegram.

It is noted that due to serious losses in the war against Ukraine, the Russian Federation resorts to mass mothballing of obsolete combat vehicles.

With the depletion of reserves of equipment manufactured in the 1970s, the Russian command has started actively returning to service even older models, particularly T-62 tanks.

"These vehicles are being restored mainly on the basis of the 103rd Armored Repair Plant, located in the Atamanovka settlement in the Trans-Baikal Territory. T-62 tanks are supplied to the combat zone mainly from the warehouses of the Eastern Military District," the report said.

Ukrainian intelligence recorded the transfer of 21 units of T-62 tanks from the Eastern Military District to the European part of the Russian Federation on June 27.

According to the GSD, the technical condition of most of these vehicles is unsatisfactory, as the tanks have been stored in the open for decades without maintenance. However, due to the acute shortage of modern main battle tanks such as the T-90M and T-72B3M, the use of T-62s is seen as a temporary but forced solution.

"In practice, T-62s are used not only as active combat units, but also as stationary firing points to reinforce defensive positions," the intelligence added.
