There Was An Earthquake In The Aegean Sea

Dozens of people were hurt.

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck on the night of June 3 in the Aegean Sea between the Greek island of Rhodes and Turkish Marmaris. One person died and 69 were injured.

The strong earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 was recorded on Monday night to Tuesday in the Aegean Sea, 23 kilometers north of Rhodes and near the Turkish coast.

According to the Athens National Observatory, the origin lay at a depth of about 62 kilometers.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) estimated that the magnitude of the earthquake in the area of the Dodecanese archipelago was 6.2, and the depth of the origin was 68 kilometers.

Turkish Interior Minister said that as a result of the earthquake off the coast of Marmaris killed a teenage girl, 69 people were injured.

The 14-year-old girl was taken to a hospital with panic attacks, where she "died despite all measures taken," Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Yerlikaya told X.

He said most of the victims jumped out of their homes for fear of collapsing buildings.

Two years ago, a strong earthquake struck Turkey and Syria, killing several thousand people and destroying more than five and a half thousand buildings.

The tremors were felt throughout the Dodecanese archipelago and especially in the city of Rhodes, where residents took to the streets. There were no casualties in Rhodes.

The governor of the South Aegean Islands Yorgos Hadjimarkos said that many tourists in Rhodes were frightened and left their hotels for a while, Greek media reported.

Experts say that the origin of the earthquake was at a great depth, so there is no danger of a tsunami, and there is little likelihood of repeated shocks.
