Oleg Apostol became the new commander of the DSHV.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Ihor Skibyuk from the post of commander of the Airborne Assault Troops of the AFU. In his place he appointed Oleh Apostol.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the relevant decrees of the head of state.
"To dismiss Skibyuk Igor Anatolievich from the post of commander of the Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," decree No. 382 reads.
The president appointed Oleh Apostol as the new commander of the Airborne Assault Troops. Before that, he was deputy commander-in-chief of the AFU Alexandr Syrsky.
"To appoint Oleh Orestovich Apostol as commander of the Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," decree No. 385 reads.
What is known about Oleh Apostol
In 2008, Apostol graduated from the National Academy of Land Forces named after Hetman Petro Sahaydachny, specializing in "combat application and management of actions of units of airmobile troops".
Since 2014, a participant in combat operations in eastern Ukraine. Together with his fighters, he entered Nikolayevka in Donetsk region four times and conducted assaults on the fortifications of the Russian occupants.
On July 5, 2014, Apostol was awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky III degree for the liberation of Slavyansk and other settlements.
In 2018, he was the commander of the Airborne Assault Battalion of the 80th Independent Airborne Assault Brigade.
After the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, he is a participant in the defense and liberation of settlements in the Nikolaev region, during which many enemy vehicles were destroyed and captured. Since the end of 2022, units under Apostol's leadership have carried out successful defensive and assault operations in Donetsk, Kharkiv and Luhansk regions.
In February 2024, he was the commander of the 95th Independent Airborne Assault Brigade.
Since August 2024, he has been involved in the operation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kursk region.
On November 29, 2024, Apostol was appointed Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the AFU Oleksandr Syrskyy.
In February 2025, he was promoted to the rank of brigadier general.
