Tehran has lost a key link in the development of the atomic bomb.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe told skeptical U.S. lawmakers that U.S. strikes had destroyed Iran's only metal conversion facility. He stressed that by doing so, Tehran's nuclear program had suffered tremendous damage and added that it would take years to rebuild it. The U.S. official, who wished to remain anonymous due to the nature of the information, said this on Sunday, according to Associated Press.
The source said Ratcliffe detailed the significance of the strike on the metal conversion facility at a closed hearing for members of Congress last week.
Ratcliffe also said the intelligence community has assessed that most of Iran's stockpiled enriched uranium probably remains under rubble at Isfahan and Fordow, two of the three key nuclear sites struck.
But even if the uranium survived, the destruction of the metal conversion facility effectively removes Tehran's ability to build a nuclear bomb for years to come, the official said.
