Switzerland Joins 17th Package Of EU Sanctions Against Russia

The restrictions mainly affect about 200 ships of the "shadow fleet".
The Swiss government has joined the latest package of sanctions of the European Union against Russia, which were adopted in May 2025.

It is noted that 17 individuals and 58 legal entities are under the sanctions. They will be frozen assets, as well as prohibited entry into the country and transit through it.
In the message of the government noted that some of the sanctioned persons are related to the Russian defense and military complex.
In addition, 189 vessels from third countries, mostly tankers from among Russia's "shadow fleet," fell under the restrictions.
The government also noted that Switzerland has strengthened export controls for 31 companies. Among them are third countries that are not EU members.
EU sanctions against Russia
The European Union on May 20 approved a 17th package of sanctions against Russian Federation for its aggressive war against Ukraine. The restrictions mainly affected about 200 ships of the Russian Federation's "shadow fleet" engaged in oil transportation to circumvent the already existing sanctions.
