They envision imposing a 500% duty on US imports from countries that buy oil from Russia.
The United States sanctions against Russia have been prepared, Congress and the White House are ready to approve them.
The US President's Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg said this, according to Fox News.
The official said that the draft of US sanctions against Russia is already ready.
"Last weekend I spoke with Senator Lindsey Graham. My understanding is that the sanctions are ready. The bill is called the Russian Sanctions Act 2025 (Russian Sanctions Act 2025). And I think Graham has already prepared them and is ready to implement them," Kellogg said.
He also called the sanctions "quite onerous."
"For example, a 500% customs rate on imports into the United States. Congress and the White House are unanimous on this issue. Russia is an oil power. It derives most of its income from the petrochemical industry. It is this industry that these sanctions are aimed at," Trump's special envoy added.
US sanctions against Russia
In early May, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham drafted "crushing" US sanctions against Russia.
The restrictions provide for the imposition of a 500% duty on all US imports from countries that buy oil, petroleum products, natural gas or uranium from Russia. The document also bans US citizens from buying Russian sovereign debt.
The sanctions are designed to force Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump promises to approve the sanctions package if Russia fails peace talks in Istanbul.
