EU Approves Bulgaria's Switch To Euro

Sofia may join the eurozone from January 1, 2026.

The European Commission and the ECB on Wednesday approved Bulgaria's switch to the euro from 2026, making it the twenty-first member state of the currency bloc, Reuters reported.

In a convergence report describing the alignment of Bulgaria's economy with the rest of the eurozone, the European Commission said Sofia had met the conditions needed to switch to the single currency, which is used by 347 million people in 20 European states.
