Fentanyl Has Reached Belarus

More than a kilogram of powder, seized from two men in Pukhovichi district, was found a derivative of the well-known drug fentanyl - carfentanil. This substance can cause sudden death, reported in the department of the State Committee of Forensic Examinations in Minsk voblast.

In Pukhovichi district, packaged drugs were seized from the illicit traffic. 46-year-old and 37-year-old men were detained.

A little more than 1.3 kg of psychotropics were seized from their car, as well as from personal searches and bookmarks. The substance was sent for examination, which showed that the wrapped with duct tape convolutions with a total mass of just over 1230 g contained carfentanil.

"By the way, the effect of carfentanil paralyzes the central nervous system and can cause sudden death," - noted in the UGKSE.

In addition, almost 200 grams of methadone were found in the forest bookmarks of the detained men.

It is noted that the total weight of the seized drugs was sufficient to produce several thousand single doses, each of which could pose a lethal danger to users. The criminal case is being investigated by the Pukhovichi District Department of the Investigative Committee.

Carfentanil is an opioid analgesic derived from the better-known fentanyl, whose addiction epidemic is being talked about in the United States. Carfentanil is also used as a tranquilizer for elephants - two milligrams of the substance is enough to put the animal to sleep. It is used in paramedicine, as well as in palliative care.
