U.S. senators have drafted a "very tough" bill.
US President Donald Trump said he would use additional sanctions against Russia "if necessary" as the country's war with Ukraine continues to drag on.
"If I believe that Russia will not make an agreement or stop the bloodshed ... I will use that if necessary," he told reporters aboard Air Force One, writes CNN.
He added that senators, many of whom have signed on to a bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia, are leaving the final decision to him.
"I haven't talked to them about it. They have a bill, but the decision will be up to me, it's my choice. They did it that way and it would have saved a lot of time if it had happened. So I'm fine with it. I haven't decided to use it yet. It's a very strong bill," he added.
