"Belarusian Products" In Kazakhstan Got Into A Scandal

The company prohibited local workers from speaking their native language among themselves.

Kazakhstani media report on the scandal, in which the chain of stores "Belarusian Products" was caught in the country. The company allegedly prohibited local employees from speaking their native language among themselves, reports "Belsat".

The Belarusian Products chain of stores positions itself as an official distributor of leading Belarusian factories in Kazakhstan. Their assortment, as stated, includes more than 2500 items of meat, sausage and dairy products, canned products and semi-finished products, seafood, sauces and confectionery. Today the network is represented by more than 100 stores in the largest cities of Kazakhstan. They offer products from the largest manufacturing plants in Minsk, Vitebsk, Grodno, Brest, Gomel and Mogilev regions, "ensuring uninterrupted supply of fresh products in the shortest possible time".

But recently they have had some problems. "Til kespek zhok" writes that in early May, "Belarusian Products" was criticized on the Threads network. It was claimed that one of the employees in the company's accounting department, Aigul Amangeldieva, came under pressure for speaking Kazakh to a colleague while working, and she was banned from speaking Kazakh at work.

"We started being harassed after they told us that at work we speak Russian like that, but among ourselves we speak our native language," Aigul said.

She said the chief accountant, Svetlana Belyanovich, told them off, demanding they speak not in Kazakh, but "in a normal language that everyone understands." At the remark that among themselves Kazakhs would continue to speak Kazakh, they began to shout at them.

"Belarusian Products" denied harassment through language. Aigul was later fined, issued a protocol and subjected to what she said was psychological pressure:

"My blood pressure went up and I called an ambulance."

Aigul reported the harassment she suffered at work to her management and the human resources department. However, according to her, no one took any appropriate action or inquired about her condition. As a result, the woman herself quit her job.

Although other former employees also speak about the prohibition to speak Kazakh in the company, Belarusian Products itself denies it. The woman herself was accused of lying and inciting ethnic hatred.
