Ukraine sees this as pressure.
The head of the Russian negotiating group Vladimir Medinsky has said that Ukraine has allegedly postponed the prisoner exchange. This statement is regarded in Kiev as an attempt to put pressure on Ukrainian negotiators.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to a source and Medinsky's publication in Telegram.
According to Medinsky, the Russian side allegedly delivered 1,212 bodies of dead Ukrainian military personnel to the exchange area as early as yesterday, with the remaining bodies out of 6,000 still on their way to the site. The Russians also allegedly handed over to Ukraine the first list of 640 wounded, critically ill and young prisoners to begin the exchange.
"However, the Ukrainian side has unexpectedly postponed indefinitely both the reception of bodies and the exchange of prisoners of war," Medinsky said.
The source of RBC-Ukraine, informed about the process of preparing the exchange, called Medinsky's statement about the delivery of the dead bodies a fake.
"First, no repatriation happened yesterday, the Russians are spreading fakes. Secondly, they are trying to put pressure on the negotiating team. The exchange is being prepared, and any details could very much affect this. This is a sensitive issue," - said the interlocutor RBC-Ukraine.
We will recall that during the second round of peace talks in Istanbul, Ukraine and Russia agreed on the exchange of 6,000 for 6,000 bodies of dead military personnel, as well as the exchange of wounded, seriously ill and young prisoners of war.
