And they named a way to rip it off.
The extension of Western military aid to Ukraine is the centerpiece of a strategy to pressure the occupying country Russia. It is the kind of move that could force Vladimir Putin to rethink his, they say, strategy for victory. The transfer of the necessary weapons to Kiev would slow down the Russians' advance and allow them to inflict even greater losses on the occupiers. This was stated by analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War.
The ISW summary says: the Kremlin's plan is that Ukraine will tire of the war before Russia does, but the countries of the Western world can change such events.
Putin may reconsider "victory strategy"
Any increase in economic pressure on Moscow is a positive political step, experts believe, but it is not enough to bring Putin to the negotiating table, or to achieve a change in his "plans."
Putin's "victory" theory is based on the "assumption" that Russian troops can make longer, albeit small, advances on the front than Ukraine can hold its defenses and the West can help it. It is likely that Putin will continue to be guided by this "principle," refusing to hold meaningful negotiations with Ukraine.
Analytics believe that a peace in Ukraine that would be acceptable to Washington requires either prolonged combat losses of the occupiers or a serious defeat of the Russian military on the front.
"The United States should continue to supply the Ukrainian military with weapons, as Russia's battlefield losses remain a major factor in its current equipment, manpower, and economic problems," ISW wrote.
