Witnesses say flames are rising dozens of meters and black puffs of smoke have engulfed much of the city. The fire has become so powerful that it is visible from most areas, including the outskirts and central part of Melitopol.
The causes of the fire are currently being investigated, but the press service of the Melitopol administration reported that the fire occurred at one of the shops of the enterprise.
Now several fire brigades are working at the scene of the fire, special vehicles are moving along the streets of the city. Due to the dense smoke, the bridge to Novy Melitopol, which runs next to the territory of the plant, was closed.
The Hydromash plant was previously used as a civilian enterprise for the production of hydraulic equipment and pumps for various industries, but, according to some reports, after the outbreak of full-scale war, the Russian occupation forces converted it into a military infrastructure.
