Zelensky: We Are Very Close To The Moment When We Can Force Russia To End The War

To do so, the US must impose tough sanctions.

Vladimir Zelensky is convinced that Ukraine and its allies have come very close to the moment when it is possible to force Russia to end or at least stop the war, but for this the United States must impose tough sanctions against Russia.

The Ukrainian president said this in an interview with ABC News, the full video of which was released by the press service of the Ukrainian leader:

"Frankly speaking, we have come very close to the moment when it is possible to force Russia to end the war, at least to stop it. We feel it.

Our Operation Web... although they (Russians - ed.) are mad, they all understand - that if there are such cases with 20 thousand missiles (which the U.S. planned for Ukraine, but transferred to the Middle East - ed.), etc., we will count on our own forces.... we don't want the war to continue, but if this is the only way out, we will fight for ourselves.

We are getting very close. We need strong help from the United States, the U.S. needs unity with Europe, and still put pressure on Putin. He doesn't want to end the war, but he can end the war because of pressure from partners. In my opinion, that gives it a chance. And it definitely doesn't sound pessimistic, I'm talking about reality."

When asked whether Trump wants to impose sanctions against Russia, Zelensky said: "He is the leader of the United States of America, he has to do it. I hope, we very much believe that the U.S. is the leader of the civilized world."

The journalist recalled that Trump recently hinted even at the possibility of imposing sanctions against Ukraine.

"There has already been a lot of stuff against Ukraine from the Russians. Definitely do not want from the U.S.," Zelensky replied.

He emphasized that Ukraine supports all the initiatives proposed by the U.S. on ceasefire, on ending the war, on any negotiation formats.

"There is no need to look for a balance between us and the Russians here. The Russians don't want that. Sometimes there is no alternative. Here only the Russians don't want to end the war. It doesn't matter who wants to put sanctions on the Russians here, America should put sanctions here. There is no alternative here, neither in the first question nor in the second," the president said.

Zelensky expressed his belief that "all the potential, all the tools of pressure (on Putin - ed.) the president of the United States has - starting from sanctions, economic blockades, arms packages, rallying other European leaders around him who want this."

"They (European leaders - ed.) look at President Trump as a leader of the world, the world of the free and democratic, and say, 'Please be a leader.' You are the leader. Stop Putin, and we will help you, because Europe is not as strong as America." Europe has yet to become very strong. But there is a struggle going on today. President Trump can make it all happen, I believe," the president said.
