It's all to blame for the money conversion error.

Norwegian lottery operator Norsk Tipping on Monday apologized to several thousand people who were told of significant winnings a few days ago.

It was reported by The Guardian.

Norsk Tipping has admitted that it mistakenly informed "several thousand" customers on Friday that they had won significant amounts of money in the Eurojackpot lottery due to a money conversion error.

"Thousands of Norwegians were mistakenly informed that they had won a large prize in Eurojackpot. It was a mistake that affected many and we take it very seriously," Norsk Tipping CEO Vegar Strand said on Monday.

One of the lottery participants, 53-year-old Ole Fredrik Sveen, was told he had won 1.2 million Norwegian kroner - when in fact he had won only 125 kroner.

Background of the error, the Norwegian lottery authority has launched an audit to see if gambling laws were violated, and Norway's culture minister Lubna Jafferi called the mistake "totally unacceptable."
