The U.S. Is Modernizing Patriot So It Can Shoot Down All Russian Missiles

Successful tests have been conducted.

The United States has successfully tested upgraded PAC-3 MSE anti-aircraft missiles for Patriot systems.

According to Defense Express, this upgrade will significantly strengthen the U.S. air defense capabilities against modern threats from drones to cruise and anti-ship missiles.

In the tests, the missiles intercepted air-to-air targets that mimicked drones, cruise missiles and aircraft.

The tests did not target ballistic missiles.

Analysts suggest the upgrade was primarily aimed at better countering maneuvering targets, which are increasingly common in modern warfare, most notably Ukraine's war against Russia.

Defense Express notes that among the threats that will now be able to more effectively defeat U.S. SAMs are both Iranian-Russian Shahed kamikaze drones and Kh-101 and Kalibr cruise missiles, which Russia is actively using against Ukraine.

In addition, the list of potential targets includes supersonic anti-ship missiles Onyx, also in service with the Russian army.

At the same time, analysts add that the use of expensive PAC-3 MSE missiles against targets that cost disproportionately less can be economically disadvantageous, and the experience of the Russian-Ukrainian war also shows this.

But in combat situations, sometimes it is necessary to use means that are at hand in the moment to protect lives and critical infrastructure.
