The changes came amid Washington's growing irritation with the Kremlin's stance.
After six months of skepticism from the White House about Kiev and a friendly attitude toward Moscow, President Donald Trump and leading Republicans have changed course. The White House is preparing to send additional arms to Ukraine and Congress is preparing to pass tough sanctions against Russia.
The The Washington Post reports.
The changes come amid Trump's growing irritation over Vladimir Putin's unwillingness to seriously discuss ways to end the war against Ukraine. Trump pledged last year to quickly end the conflict but failed.
A senior White House official said the president had agreed to some Ukrainian requests for military aid based on a detailed list that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky gave him last month during a meeting in The Hague.
On Capitol Hill, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune said they would try to pass legislation this month that would give Trump the ability to impose sanctions on Russian energy buyers.
