Is Trump And Putin's Friendship Over?

The only way out for the president of the United States is pressure.

US President Donald Trump has finally realized that he has been played by Russia's "good guy" and now he intends to take a tough stance on Russia.

In his column for Politico, columnist Jamie Dettmer speculates whether Trump and Putin's friendship will really end here.

"Trump has now realized that Putin is the problem, so he needs to put pressure on Putin, which he can do," former U.S. special envoy to Ukraine Bill Taylor said confidently.

But Dettmer wondered whether Trump would really apply the kind of pressure that might make Putin stop?"

"It's not clear yet - you never know with Trump. And that's part of the problem," the columnist emphasized.

Dettmer noted that Trump's negotiating tactics have worked well in business. But it doesn't work with Putin.

"Putin could easily conclude, as he has apparently done before, that Trump's barking is worse than his biting, and that he can just wait it out," the columnist opined.

Trump claimed he could induce Putin to end the war against Ukraine, otherwise he threatened to launch an unrestrained economic war, impose duties and even additional sanctions against Russia.

"That was five months ago," Dettmer ironized.
