Putin Ordered Top Officers To Wear Pants With Leggings

Previously, general's lamppasses were only on ceremonial uniforms.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a decree amending the rules for wearing military uniforms. In particular, top officers of the Armed Forces and Rosgvardia are now required to wear pants with edging and stripes of the established colors. Previously, the general's lamppasses were only on parade uniforms, writes The Moscow Times .

In addition, the set of field uniforms is supplemented with camouflaged shirts for both men and women soldiers. Also for top officers of the Navy and Coastal Forces, a black dress uniform with five percent gilding on the collar and epaulettes is provided. The set of cadets or military personnel serving at educational institutions includes a shirt of camouflage coloring.

Lampas in one form or another were worn by servicemen of different types of troops of the Russian Imperial Army until 1917. In the USSR, this element of the military uniform was introduced by a government decree (SNK) in July 1940 for the uniforms of generals.

In April, Putin approved changes in the wearing of military uniforms for law enforcement agencies. New elements of sewing and patches were introduced for officers, warrant officers and cadets, particularly for the FSB high command and the President's Main Directorate of Special Programs. Cornflower-colored edging was added to the caps and epaulettes of servicemen of the Federal Guard Service.
