Zaluzhny: U.S. Has Significant Stockpiles Of Decommissioned Missiles That Could Be Transferred To Ukraine
Valery Zaluzhny

With such a decision, the U.S. could avoid additional budgetary costs for disposal.

The USA has a large stock of decommissioned missiles, which they could transfer to Ukraine instead of utilization. This was stated by former AFU commander-in-chief and Ukrainian ambassador to the UK Valeriy Zaluzhny in his column for "Ukrayinska Pravda".

He said that the United States remains a country of virtually unlimited opportunities and with the most developed economy. He emphasized that the transfer of obsolete missiles to Ukraine could be a viable solution.

Zaluzhny noted that the transfer of such missiles does not require additional budgetary expenditures for disposal, and is a vital step for Ukraine.

The Ukrainian ambassador to the UK shared that as of the end of 2023, the US has produced more than 170,000 Hellfire missiles of various modifications. Most of these munitions were produced back in 1998-2018, and their service life is 20-25 years, after which the weapons must be decommissioned or utilized.

- Consequently, a significant portion of obsolete weapons will be scrapped or transferred to other allied countries. Ukraine can take advantage of this chance by systematically sending official requests within the framework of various programs, arguing the need for operational reinforcement of defense capabilities and guaranteeing the US rational disposal of stockpiles," Zaluzhny believes.
