The U.S. is preparing a response to Russian shelling.
US President Donald Trump is considering a new funding package for Ukraine. It would be the first decision of this nature since he took office in January 2025.
This is reported by CBS News.
Sources say the new funding could have symbolic significance - as a signal to the Russian leadership amid massive drone and missile attacks on Ukraine in recent days.
Earlier this week, Trump had already hinted at the possibility of supplying additional defensive weapons to Ukraine, though just days earlier It remains unclear from what sources the new aid could be funded.
At the same time, according to U.S. media reports, Trump has at least $3.85 billion left over from the previous administration, and could potentially use about $5 billion from frozen Russian assets.
But as CBS News notes, neither Donald Trump nor his predecessor Joe Biden have yet to exercise that right.
