Lukashenko's Madness Has Taken A New Form

And it turned into a sabotage.

Vladimir Putin's initiative has led to two Belarusian cities being awarded a title that sounds like ideological subversion, writes UDF.

July 2, on the eve of "Independence Day," Baranovichi inaugurated a ten-meter-high monument - in honor of the awarding of the honorary title of the Commonwealth of Independent States "City of Labor Glory 1941-1945."

Yes, you are confused for a reason: after all, most Belarusian settlements were under German occupation until the summer of 1944. And here the officials suddenly said that the city under Nazi rule was a model of "labor glory".

And what officials: deputy head of Lukashenko's administration Dmitry Matusevich, first deputy secretary general of the CIS Igor Petrishenko, chairman of the Brest regional executive committee Peter Parkhomchik, presidential aide for the Brest region Alexander Lomsky.

The title "City of Labor Glory of 1941-1945" was also awarded to Orsha - but this city was under occupation until the summer of 1944.

But the madness of officials has an explanation.

Pobedobedobesie from Putin

Where did the title "City of Labor Glory of 1941-1945" come from? It appeared on the initiative of Vladimir Putin. Last October, at the CIS summit, he proposed to establish such a title and award it to cities whose residents made a special contribution to the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The Russian leader spoke about rear cities:

"This will become a symbol of recognition and respect for the collective feat of our peoples, all those who worked on the home front, helped in defeating the enemy."

It is well known that under Putin, victoriousness - the hyperbolic celebration of Victory Day for propaganda purposes - has blossomed in Russia. Among other things, the Russian Federation has long had the title of "city of labor valor", which has been awarded to about 70 settlements.

Putin has apparently decided to "make nice" and CIS allies: even though the Second World War did not take place on the lands of most of them, but now you can get a title with a heroic name for work on the home front.

We should remind that even in the CIS Russia has few allies - only eight (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan).

It initially seemed that Belarusian cities could not be attached to this initiative. Here is what one of the Russian propaganda resources wrote:

"The countries along the western border of the modern Russian Federation - Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova - were occupied during the war by the combined forces of European coalition troops led by Nazi Germany. Therefore, it is difficult to choose applicants for the new honorary title in these countries. The regions of the RSFSR - the Volga region, the Urals, Siberia, the republics of the Caucasus and Central Asia during the war not only forged the victory of the Soviet people, but also became a refuge for evacuated factories and plants. Their capitals and large cities hosted millions of refugees and labor collectives of industrial enterprises from the occupied and frontline territories".

But the officials were so clever that Belarusian cities were included in the list.

June 26 this year, the Council of Heads of State of the CIS decided to award the honorary title "City of Labor Glory. 1941-1945" to a number of cities of the Commonwealth countries - for "uninterrupted production of military and civilian products, supplying the front with necessary resources, organizing the work of military hospitals".

The list of the first cities honored with the title included Baku (Azerbaijan), Gyumri (Armenia), Baranovichi and Orsha (Belarus), Almaty, Astana, Atyrau, Karaganda, Kostonai, Pavlodar and Ridder (Kazakhstan), Kadamzhai and Mailuu-Suu (Kyrgyzstan), Dushanbe (Tajikistan), Andijan, Namangan, Samarkand, Tashkent and Fergana (Uzbekistan).

How officials are pulling the owl over the globe

It is not quite clear why Belarusian cities need to participate in the strange initiative. But officials are pulling the owl on the globe, refusing logic and common sense. At the opening of the monument in Baranovichi, some people emphasized that the workers "in the shortest possible time restored the city from ashes and ruins".

But in fact the initiative looks like an ideological diversion: Baranovichi was under Nazi occupation and at the same time it became a "city of labor glory"....
