The supplies will be paid for by the EU.
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday he would send missiles to Ukraine for Patriot air defense systems, stressing that they are needed to protect the country.
"I haven't agreed on the number yet, but they will have some because they need protection. But the European Union is paying for it. We don't pay anything for it. But we will send, it will be business for us. And we will send them Patriot that they desperately need," the US president said when asked by a journalist whether the US would supply Ukraine with additional missiles for Ukraine.
According to Reuters, Trump expressed displeasure with the actions of Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
"We will send them Patriot that they desperately need because Putin has really surprised a lot of people. He speaks beautifully and then bombs everyone in the evening. But there's a bit of a problem here. I don't like it," Trump said.
He noted that the United States plans to supply Ukraine with various pieces of high-tech military equipment.
"They're going to pay us 100 percent for it, and that's what we want," he said.
At the same time, he said the European Union would reimburse the United States for the cost of those supplies. He said he planned to meet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte this week to discuss Ukraine and other issues.
