On July 14, General Kellogg arrived in Kyiv on an official visit.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met in Kiev with the US President's Special Representative for Ukraine, General Keith Kellogg.
Umerov said this on Facebook on Monday, July 14.
"A substantive and frank conversation was devoted to our common goal of achieving a sustainable and just peace. Thanked the United States for its support of Ukraine. This assistance saves lives and brings the end of the war closer," the minister noted.
First Deputy Defense Minister Sergey Boyev stressed that Ukraine is open to a prolonged ceasefire, but security is possible only if there is a combat-ready army and a powerful defense-industrial complex. That is why the development of its own military potential remains a priority.
Special attention during the talks was paid to joint projects on localization of arms production in Ukraine and Europe - in particular, air defense systems and other critical areas. Some of the projects are already being implemented, others are at the preparatory stage. As the Defense Ministry noted, these initiatives strengthen not only Ukraine, but also NATO partners. The Ukrainian side is also ready to share unique combat experience, particularly in the field of UAVs.
The ministry also noted that large-scale projects can be implemented with the participation of European partners or at the expense of frozen Russian assets.
The parties discussed the issue of sanctions separately. It was noted that Russia's energy sector remains the main source of funding for its war against Ukraine.
The U.S. side also received briefings from the AFU commander-in-chief Gen. Alexandr Syrsky, Chief of the General Staff Maj. Gen. Andrei Gnatov, head of the GUR Lt. Gen. Kirill Budanov and intelligence representatives.
According to Umerov, the Ukrainian side informed about the current operational situation, the enemy's plans and Russia's preparations for a war on a wider scale - not only against Ukraine, but also against NATO. General Syrsky voiced the priority needs of the AFU in armaments.
On July 14, Keith Kellogg arrived in Kyiv on an official visit. Last time he visited Ukraine on February 19.
In the course of his visit, he also met with President Vladimir Zelensky. They discussed enhanced air defense for Ukraine, joint production, defense arms purchases with Europe, and sanctions against Russia and those who help it.
On July 13, Senator Lindsey Graham said that a "record flow of weapons" to Ukraine would begin in the coming days so that it could defend itself. He also announced additional sanctions against Russia and countries that buy Russian oil.
