Zelensky Decided To Change Ukraine's Defense Minister

The Ukrainian president has announced who will head the defense ministry.

The current Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal will head the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. This was stated by the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.

"The colossal experience of Denis Shmygal will definitely be useful to the position of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine - it is in this area now the maximum of the country's resources, the maximum of tasks and very much responsibility," - wrote Zelensky. He urged Verkhovna Rada deputies to support Shmygal's candidacy.

The post of Defense Minister is currently held by Rustem Umerov.

In place of Shmygal, Zelensky earlier proposed to appoint First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko.
