The Pentagon chief responded favorably to the request.
Germany wants to buy from the United States mobile ground-based Typhon launchers capable of launching missiles with a range of about 2,000 kilometers.
As n-tv reports, the country's Defense Minister Boris Pistorius told reporters during a visit to Washington. He noted that Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth has responded positively to the request. Washington is now studying whether it is ready to hand them over to Berlin.
High-precision missiles of up to 2,000 kilometers can cover the territory of Russian Federation, but Pistorius assures that these installations will be used only for deterrence.
The Typhon
The Typhon Mobile Missile System (officially called Mid-Range Capability, or MRC) is an advanced ground-based platform developed by the U.S. Army to launch medium-range missiles.
It is capable of using Tomahawk cruise missiles, which have a range of up to 2,000 kilometers, as well as SM-6 missiles, which can engage both air and ground targets at a range of approximately 500 kilometers.
The system is based on a truck chassis and includes launchers, a command post and transport and charging vehicles. The Typhon system is already deployed in the Philippines and is planned to be deployed in Europe in 2026 as part of NATO's defense buildup.
