Ilya Shkurin, Who Plays For Polish Legia, Does Not Fly To The Return Match In Kazakhstan

The reason is Lukashenko.

Soccer player Ilya Shkurin, who plays for Polish "Legia", does not fly to the match in Kazakhstan, which will be held on July 17, because of the risk of being detained. Polish sports journalist Krzysztof Marciniak wrote about it on social network X.

On Thursday, Legia Warsaw will play against Kazakh club Aktobe in the return match of the first qualifying round of the Europa League. But one of the team's strikers - Belarusian Ilya Shkurin - will not go to the match.

Ilya Shkurin openly criticizes Alexander Lukashenko. In 2020, Shkurin said that he refuses to come to the national team while Lukashenko is in power.

That's why the Legia striker, according to the Polish publication Sport.pl, fears that the Belarusian authorities may create problems for him through the special services of Kazakhstan - for example, not to let him into the country, detain him at the airport or hotel.

"Ilya Shkurin will not go to Kazakhstan for the match against Aktobe. The reason - not in the state of health, but rather in politics. The footballer fears that the Belarusian regime, which he criticizes, could, in cooperation with the Kazakh special services, create problems for him," wrote Krzysztof Marciniak.

The club explained that Shkurin is not going to Kazakhstan "for personal reasons."
