The European Commissar has called for the protection of the EU's eastern border.
After a Russian Gerbera drone flew into Lithuanian territory from Belarus last week, European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius called on Lithuania and countries in the region to create a "drone barrier" and establish mass production of drones.
"This shows that the possibility of such a drone entering Lithuanian territory exists. Whether Lithuania is ready to defend itself against such drones, whether it has sufficient capabilities, the question remains unanswered," Kubilius said in the "Topic of the Day" program of the LRT TV channel.
"Therefore, I always call on Lithuania and the countries of the region to take care of creating a so-called eastern border protection plan, a physical protection plan, first of all by installing a number of physical barriers on the ground. (...) In my opinion, such a plan should include not only a physical border, but also the creation of a 'drone barrier'," the European Commissioner said.
