Ukraine Extends Martial Law Regime

For the 16th time.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Tuesday, July 15, approved the extension of the martial law regime in the country and general mobilization for another 90 days - until November 5, 2025.

This was reported in his Telegram channel by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak. According to him, the relevant bills #13471 and #13472 were supported by 320 people's deputies, one vote was against. The Rada's decision will come into force on August 7.

This is the sixteenth extension since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. For the first time in its history, Ukraine imposed martial law regime on the morning of February 24, 2022. This regime is extended every 90 days.

The martial law regime gives the Ukrainian authorities the right to impose a number of restrictions. Among other things, no elections are allowed during this time. In this regard, Ukraine did not hold the next election of the head of state, which was scheduled for 2024.

In addition, during martial law in the country is allowed to ban the activities of political parties that threaten the sovereignty of Ukraine, and restrictions on rallies, demonstrations and mass events.

The authorities can also prohibit free movement in the country and restrict the movement of transport - both for Ukrainian citizens and foreigners. The state may introduce labor conscription or compulsory community service for certain categories of the population. Forced alienation of property for the needs of the army is also allowed.
